The honest answer to "what does an epoxy floor cost" is that it depends, and anyone who gives you a firm number over the phone without seeing the slab is guessing. Here is what actually moves the price, so you can read a quote properly.

Two floors the same size are not the same job
Size is the obvious variable, but it is not the biggest one. Condition is. A brand new slab in good shape needs a straightforward grind and go. A twenty year old garage floor with cracks, pitting, oil soaked into it and two coats of flaking paint on top is a different job entirely, and most of that extra work happens before any product comes out of the tin.
That is why two garages with identical measurements can come back with very different numbers. The floor you can see is only half the story. The slab underneath it is the other half, and the older the floor, the more of the price lives there.
Where the money actually goes: preparation
Every floor here starts with diamond grinding. Grinding takes off the weak top skin of the concrete and any old coatings, and opens a surface profile the new coating can key into. It is slow, dusty, physical work with serious machinery, and it is the single biggest reason an epoxy floor stays down for years instead of lifting in months.
On top of the grind, the slab gets whatever repairs it needs. Old coatings have to be ground off completely. Cracks have to be cut out and filled. Pitting gets patched. Oil contamination has to be dealt with, or the new coating will not bond over it. None of this shows in the finished photos, and all of it is in the price.
The finish tiers
The finish is the second lever. A solid colour is the simplest build: base coat, colour, clear. A flake system adds the broadcast and the scrape back plus extra clear coats, so it carries more material and more passes. A metallic pour is the most labour intensive of the lot, because the pigment has to be moved and worked by hand while it is still wet, and that is a skill you are paying for. The pattern is made once, on the day, and cannot be redone if it is rushed.

The wildcards a quote has to cover
Access is one: a floor you can drive a grinder straight into is cheaper than one up a flight of stairs. Moisture is another: a slab that has damp pushing up through it needs to be tested and treated before anything goes on top, because moisture is one of the main reasons coatings fail. And furniture or machinery that has to be moved, worked around or protected all adds time.

How to read a quote
When quotes for the same floor come back far apart, the difference is almost never the resin. It is what each quote includes before the resin. A quote that is dramatically cheaper has usually thinned out the preparation: a light sand or an acid wash instead of a full grind, no crack repair, no moisture check. The floor looks identical on handover day. The difference shows up a year later.
So compare quotes on what they include, not just the bottom line. If a quote does not mention grinding, repairs or moisture, ask.
